Reighton is on the King Charles III national coast path. The Lair is situated just a lovely 20 minute walk (or a 3 minute drive with on street parking available) to the cliffs and the fabulous sandy beach below, with access down a quiet country lane and footpath. There is also a permissive tarmacked track access to the beach.
Reighton Gap is set within Filey bay, with Hunmanby Gap, Filey and the Brigg in one direction, and the white chalk of Speeton and Bempton cliffs (where there is an RSPB reserve-puffins and other birds) the opposite way. This area has recently become England's first "shore watch" sites for monitoring dolphins, porpoises and whales in the bay. Going away from the coast are the Yorkshire Wolds with tranquil; and gentle countryside and the surrounding area also includes the North York Moors National Park with forest and woodland trails.
Reighton is bypassed from the coastal road yet with good access to the wider region. It has a church, a book exchange point, village hall and a renowned garden centre with Richardson’s Old Town Bakery outlet outside. There is a regular coastal bus service. The Bay holiday village (approx 1 mile) offers a swimming pool, tennis courts and a gym.
Hunmanby is a larger community an easy 2 miles away and offers the full range of day to day services, a coop open until late, doctor, chemist, 3 pubs and a fish and chip shop. There is a beautifully maintained station with connections to Seamer and York and national rail services, and a direct service to Sheffield via Beverley and Hull and other stations.
Unfinished renovation projects to the rear and the side of the Lair, Reighton, Filey
Planning permission relating to these is available through searching ‘Littlecroft’ (the
original farm) under Scarborough planning portal, and it is considered these projects will
not impact the privacy of the Lair, but actually enhance the appearance of the
surrounding conservation area, once finished. The price of the Lair has been reduced in
acknowledgement that this unfinished building work is causing initial concern to
potential purchasers. The final decisions regarding both Littlecroft farmhouse (the
bungalow) itself, and the 2 two bedroomed cottages next door are as follows:
